The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an honor society designed to support music students who demonstrate high levels of musical and academic achievement. The society advocates for the importance and value of music education in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Tri-M highlights the school’s music department and establishes credibility within the surrounding community. Tri-M members are poised to transition directly to the collegiate level professional organization known as NAfME (National Association for Music Education). Public performances and service projects are a hallmark of the community impact of our Tri-M chapter.
Requirements for acceptance into Tri-M include:
- Students must be in grades 10, 11, or 12.
- Students must have a “B” or above average in all classes.
- Students must have an “A” average in all ensemble classes (Choir, Orchestra, Band).
- A recommendation from the student’s ensemble director is required.
Vocal Music Course Offerings:
CHORUS (Men’s)
Credit: 1.0
Prerequisite: None
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, 12
CHORUS (Mixed) is a beginning/intermediate level class for students who wish to develop their vocal technique. Basic theory, sight-reading, breathing and breath-support, resonance, and many other skills are developed. This class is for those students who do not wish to commit to significant after-school activities. A course fee of $45 dollars and performance attire is required.
CHORUS (Women’s)

CHORUS (Mixed) is a beginning/intermediate level class for students who wish to develop their vocal technique. Basic theory, sight-reading, breathing and breath-support, resonance, and many other skills are developed. CONCERT CHOIR

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and an audition
Grade Level: 9,10, 11, 12
CONCERT CHOIR is an intermediate/advanced level class for students who wish to develop their vocal skills and compete in festivals, audition for all-region and all-state choir, and perform more often. More time is required for after-school practices and performances, auditions, etc. than Men’s and Women’s Chorus. A $75 fee and purchase of performance clothing is requested.
CHORALE

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and an audition
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
CHORALE is an advanced level class for students who wish to develop their vocal skills and compete in festivals, audition for all-region and all-state choir, and perform at the highest level. More time is required for after-school practices, performances, and auditions than in Men’s/Women’s Chorus or Concert Choir. A $75 fee and purchase of performance clothing is requested.
SHOW/JAZZ CHOIR

(Students must ALSO be in Chorale)
Grade Level: 10, 11, 12
SHOW/JAZZ CHOIR is an advanced level course designed for students with strong vocal technique and strong knowledge of music fundamentals. Course content may include advanced vocal technique, jazz theory, improvisation, and choreography. Occasional performances, after-school rehearsals, and competitions may be required as scheduled. A choral fee of $50.00 and the purchase of performance attire are requested for this class and are payable at the beginning of the year.
